the plot thickens

Did a little bit of digging, and it turns out hostnames (which is what the jeff_robertson part of the URL is) are not really supposed to contain underscores. Not according to this article, and this RFC.

So I've been using an illegal URL for my blog all these years. I think I sort of knew that already, when I noticed a couple of years ago that Blogger had stopped letting you register any new blogs with underscores in their URLs.

So.. do I change my URL to something like jeff-robertson.blogspot.com? That would make a valid hostname, but how many links will it break?

I've dealt with the conflicts between standards-compliance and backward-compatibility many times on my job, but I think this is the first time it's hit me in my extracurricular activities.

Until I figure out something more permanent, http://jeff-robertson.blogspot.com just redirects back here.
